The Har’el Beit Midrash is the beit midrash of the future in which men and women committed to the Halakha, study Torah as equals and enjoy equally the stature which Torah learning bestows within the community. Furthermore, we are mindful of the public policy, moral and theological issues which bear upon the halakhic decision making process. This is because questions of personal identity and status are the core issues facing the Jewish People today. We include the laws concerning personal status – marriage, divorce and conversion – in the basic course of rabbinic studies. We are unique in two ways what we learn and how we learn. Our curriculum includes the laws of kashrut (Yoreh Deah Basar be Chalav and Taarovot) firmly grounding our students in traditional rabbinic studies. Some are seasoned educators all are in a position to impact upon their respective communities and look to Beit Midrash Har’el to empower them with the requisite knowledge and understanding to do so. The use of Pardes as an acronym for these four methods of interpretation apparently first appears in the writings of. Our students come to us after years of study. Our program brings modern sensibilities into the halakhic discourse. We inspire and prepare tomorrow’s communal leaders to serve as agents for change within a context of continuity.
